The ransomware attack in Midland affected the town’s financial processing system. The town was unable to accept payments through debit and credit cards. There were no indications that the personal information of the Midland residents was improperly accessed. Responsibility for the attack is still unclear and how much it would cost the town to deal with the attack.

If Midland decides to pay the hacker, the cost will be covered by the town’s insurance company. Negotiations are still ongoing and exact payment amounts have not been disclosed.
